LEARN FRENCH IN 2 MINUTES - French idiom: Faire les cent pas

Transcript of the video

Hi everyone, I hope you're well and ready for this new video in French.

Today, we'll take a look at an expression.

The expression is "pacing".

Let me know in the comments if you've heard it before, or maybe even used it.

So this expression actually means what it means, we walk a lot waiting for something. We're impatient for a situation to happen or we're stressed, we can wait for news, for example.

We're going to be walking and pacing, so walking and pacing in the meantime helps to speed up time a little. I'm going to give you a few contextualizations. This will help you to understand the expression better and, above all, to use it yourself, even if you've never used it before. For example, if my grandfather has had an operation and I'm in hospital, I'm waiting for news. I can say that I'm pacing up and down the hospital corridors waiting to hear from my grandfather.

I'm a little stressed. I'm going for a walk to make the time go by faster. Here's a second, slightly happier context. I've been pacing since 8pm. I'm having a party tonight and my guests are already 30 minutes late, so it's a good way to stall. I'd rather be on the move than waiting statically, motionless. And finally, here's one last bit of context. I've been pacing back and forth all morning waiting for the results of the 2006 bac.

That's it for today. I hope you enjoyed this video. If you did, as usual, don't forget to give it a thumbs-up. If you're new, please subscribe to the channel. It helps me a lot and, above all, it means you won't miss a single video. See you soon.
