A statue of liberty in Paris?

You certainly know the Statue of Liberty in New-York. But did you know that its little sister is in Paris?

This statue was made at the same time as the original. It was offered to France by the American Committee of Paris in 1889, to celebrate the hundred years of the French Revolution. It is located on the Ile aux Cygnes, not far from the Eiffel Tower. The Statue faces New York and has its back to the Eiffel Tower.

By the way, this is not the only reproduction of the Statue of Liberty that can be seen in Paris. In fact, there are six replicas in Paris in museums, in a park, on a square and on the Ile aux Cygnes. The real Statue of Liberty in New York was also made in Paris and transported by boat to New York.

This statue was a gift from France to the United States to celebrate the country's independence and show its friendship.
