VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well. Today, I'm introducing a new video format - shorter videos with a single French expression in each one.

There will be expressions that are more informal and others in more formal language, depending on the video.

Before we start, remember to turn on subtitles so you can follow everything. Let's get started right away with the first expression.

"Mettre la main a la pate" (to put your hand in the dough).

"La main" (the hand) and "la pate" (the dough) - it refers to a baker's bread dough.

When you say you're "mettant la main a la pate," it simply means you're pitching in to help someone or a group of people get something done. It's the French equivalent of "rolling up your sleeves" or "mucking in."

Usually, it's a somewhat tedious or unpleasant task. So when you "mettez la main a la pate," you're lending a hand.

Let me give you two examples to help you better understand the expression and use it yourself.

Here's a first example: the whole family "a mis la main a la pate" to cook the Christmas dinner. We all cooked together.

Here's a second example.

I'm the only one cleaning the apartment. I wish my husband would "mettre un peu la main a la pate" - that he'd help me clean, at least vacuum.

And that's it for this expression. I hope you liked it and understood it well. Feel free to put other expressions you'd like me to explain or put into context in the comments.

If you liked this video, don't forget to give it a thumbs up, and make sure to subscribe to the channel so you don't miss any French expressions.
