0:09Before you start, feel free to activate
0:13the English or French subtitles if you need them.
0:17If I speak too fast or too slow, feel free to speed up or slow down the video.
0:25Today, we will see together the expression "mine de rien".
0:29A subscriber asked me what this expression
0:33"mine de rien" meant in a comment, so we're going to see it together today because
0:40it's an expression that can interest everyone.
0:43It simply means without looking like it. As if nothing had happened.
0:50It's used when something is different from what we imagined.
0:56"Mine" is the appearance, it's the look.
1:00This expression is used to express that appearances can be deceiving, that the
1:06result is different from what was expected.
1:10One would think not, but in fact it is.
1:13I'm going to give you some context, it's
1:15really going to help you understand better.
1:18For example, if I had hardly studied for my French exam and still got 16 out of 20,
1:26I can say: "I had hardly studied for my exam, but I still got 16 out of 20."
1:33It's a result that we didn't necessarily expect.
1:36Here is another example, another context.
1:39If it's winter and I'm at home, I feel like it's cold outside.
1:44And when I go out, there is still some sun.
1:47So I could say: "Mine de rien, it's still sunny."
1:50Or I could say: "Mine de rien, there's a
1:53lot of sun despite the clouds, I'm afraid of getting sunburned."
1:58And finally, here's one last bit of context.
2:00Wow! You're already married and have two kids.
2:03I can't believe I've been in a
2:05relationship with Thibault for 10 years already. Time flies.
2:08So, it seems that time passed quickly without us really realizing it.
2:14That's it for today, I hope you understood this expression well.
2:19Please feel free to comment on other contexts and situations of this
2:25expression, to show me that you have understood it well.
2:30If you liked the video, as usual, don't forget to put a like.
2:34It's really important to me.
