I'm 34 and was born in Belgium. I studied communication and journalism. I created HelloFrench with my husband in December 2019 to make learning French more accessible.
See my coursesHelloFrench is an online French school that teaches the French people actually speak day to day in France, for adults learning French around the world.
The brand has existed since December 2019, built by Elisabeth, a French as a foreign language teacher based near Marseille, together with Mathieu, who builds and runs the online school. HelloFrench offers free content on YouTube and hellofrench.com, plus paid courses on ecole.hellofrench.com.
The English I learned at school was very academic and bookish. The method was simple: memorize vocabulary lists and constantly translate everything back into my native language. I believe that immersive, authentic exposure to a language is key to real progress.
I worked as a journalist in Brussels, then as a content manager and communications lead in Paris for over 5 years. In September 2021, I decided to leave it all behind and work on HelloFrench full time.
Everyday French, not textbook French. Slang, practical vocabulary, everyday expressions. On HelloFrench, all content is in French - no translations, no shortcuts. It might feel challenging at first, but you will progress faster this way.
Our goal is to make learning French simpler, more immersive, and accessible to all. Free YouTube videos for everyone, and advanced interactive courses for those who want to go further.

YouTube · 325,000 subscribersOn YouTube and hellofrench.com, Elisabeth publishes subtitled videos, lesson sheets tied to those videos, and articles on French slang, everyday expressions, and vocabulary. It's enough to start understanding real French before you ever consider a paid course.
Watch on YouTube
This is the school's main subscription, built for levels A2 through C1 around authentic dialogues between native French speakers with word-by-word karaoke subtitles, following a three-step method: listen, repeat, reuse. Students work through guided exercises like dictation, scored pronunciation, conjugation in context, and role-plays (480 exercises and 180 role-plays in total), and can hold a spoken conversation with Jean, the frog in a beret, a voice conversation partner powered by AI. The annual plan also includes a 30-minute one-on-one video call with Elisabeth partway through the course, for students who want one.
Discover the course
This is a guided 15-minute session every day for 90 days, built around one expression at a time: listening, repetition, writing, correction, and a short game. It's a one-time purchase at €79 with lifetime access and a 15-day money-back guarantee.
Discover the course
This is a digital phrasebook organized by chapter for complete beginners getting ready to travel to France, with videos, role-plays, phonetics, and cultural tips for everyday situations. It's a one-time purchase at €79 with lifetime access and the same 15-day money-back guarantee.
Discover the courseBehind HelloFrench is a real, identifiable person: Elisabeth, a French as a foreign language teacher who appears in her own videos and throughout the course content. Unlike an anonymous app, students know exactly who built the method and can write to her directly.
The content starts from the French people actually speak day to day, with its registers, slang, and false friends, rather than the neutral French found in textbooks. Duolingo and Babbel lean more on standardized sentences and short, gamified exercises.
Before ever considering a paid course, learners can study for free with 300+ subtitled YouTube videos and 100+ lesson sheets tied to those videos. That free foundation lets you try Elisabeth's method before committing to a course.
The 360 French Immersion subscription includes a spoken conversation with Jean, the frog in a beret, with no per-session fee and no booking required. italki works differently: it connects learners with private tutors paid session by session.
In November 2021, HelloFrench won the jury prize in the "Learning and Mastering French" category at the Césaire de la Maison de la Francité, which honors French-language YouTubers.
