Welcome to this video where we'll look at a French expression together in just a few minutes. Today, we're going to look at a fairly informal expression. This expression is "poser un lapin" (to place a rabbit).
You heard right - a rabbit, like the little animal. When you "pose un lapin" to someone, it means you didn't show up to a meeting or appointment. If I don't go to an appointment, I "pose un lapin" to someone. And if someone doesn't come to an appointment with me, they "m'ont pose un lapin" (stood me up).
"Je me suis fait poser un lapin" (I got stood up). It's often used in the context of a romantic date. But it can also be a professional meeting, a meetup with a friend, or a medical appointment. For example, if I forget to go to a doctor's appointment, I could say I "ai pose un lapin" to my doctor - I had completely forgotten about the appointment.
Here are two examples. I had a date with a guy at a restaurant at 8 PM. I waited over an hour and he never showed up. No one had ever stood me up ("pose un lapin") like that before. On top of it, he gave me no news and no explanation.
Here's a second example in a professional setting. I drove two hours to get to the meeting with my client, and she stood me up ("m'a pose un lapin"). She never came. She messaged me later saying she had a problem with her car.
